His Testimony

“The church my father pastored was participating in a county wide evangelism event that was taking place in Laurel, MS. I honestly do not recall what the speaker preached on that evening, all I remember is sensing a deep emptiness in my heart and a sense that something was drawing me toward Jesus.

Later that evening, I told my father and mother what I had experienced and after much discussion they informed me that the something I felt drawing me was actually someone -- the Holy Spirit. After carefully going through the gospel with me, my father led me in a prayer of salvation and surrender. Thus began an intimate journey that continues to this day.

After graduation from college in 1999, the Lord led me to several ministry positions as Minister of Music, but in 2001, He placed me under the patient tutelage of Brother Jimmy Walley. Brother Jimmy was a great friend and mentor who not only challenged me to commit to full time ministry, but ultimately confronted me about surrendering to the ministry God had ordained for me.

It was while under his leadership that I was ordained to the gospel ministry in 2003 as pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church. The journey that began in 2003 has been filled with mountains and valleys, but one constant has remained, the peaceful assurance that God has called and continues to equip me to love and lead his church.”

Dr. Parker preaches the Word of God with great passion. He believes, without reservation, that the Bible is the inerrant, infallible, divinely revealed Word of God. "All scripture is God breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness."

He believes his strongest spiritual gift is that of shepherd or pastor. He has a tremendous love for people and a deep desire to help them grow into mature disciples of Christ. He prefers exposition style of preaching. He believes the disciple making process is strongly aided with a verse by verse approach to preaching but he is never closed to the Holy Spirit prompting him to another text prior to getting to the pulpit.
